This is a reference to 2002’s Monster Hunter on PS2, developed by Capcom. The use of PSPs however refers to an expanded 2006 PSP port, Monster Hunter Freedom, which was even more popular than the original. Immediately to the left of the Wires that start this level is a water tank showing a Bot in a shark tank that’s circled by two dangerous Pirhanas. This references 2016’s PlayStation VR Worlds for PS4, developed by SIE London Studio as the launch game for the PS VR. The London Heist level would be expanded into a full game called Blood & Truth in 2019. To the right of the corridor where you first start mowing down enemies with the Gatling Gun, you’ll spot a Bo wearing a PS VR headset and using an Aim Controller.

[edit] Memory Meadow guide is a bit wrong, no point getting the canister with a net in it at the start as you need your hands free to pull out the two cables to walk across first. Go to the far right corner of the beach, next to the building, on the opposite side of where the Gran Turismo Astro Bot is. If you’re having trouble getting those new messages to pop up, you might try waiting until you’ve completed the relatively short game’s main campaign.
This is a game many people might look past in their excitement to play one of the AAA launch titles for the PlayStation 5, but that would be a mistake. Astro’s Playroom is utterly charming, surprisingly deep and shows, more than many other titles, some of what makes the PS5 unique. Better graphics and faster load times are fine, but the subtle effects that are imparted via the controller are something new — and something wonderful.
Astro’s Playroom isn’t just a tech demo but a fun little platformer. It’s great that Sony is investing more in the Astro Bot franchise because this could be their answer to the Super Mario series. The level design is more like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World, and that’s a huge compliment. While linear, the space feels open enough to have a ton of details throughout.

Puzzle Piece 4/4 – After going up the above lily pad to continue, go to the left to find this puzzle piece. Artifact 2/2 “PS3 Game Disc” – From the central large ice area go to the left across the controller symbol ice blocks. Pull up the two small wires, followed by the revealed large wire in the middle to get this artifact. Artifact 1/2 “PS Move Sharpshooter”– After jumping up through the two slanted glass panels, jump to the left to an area with a wooden box with a diamond on it.
Suits like these are creative enough not to make the motion control feel like too much of a gimmick and eventually make you hate it. Having bows as weapons isn’t mind-blowing; it’s a staple in many games. When you pull back on the drawstring, the adaptive trigger gets tighter as it draws power. You wish there were more targets and enemies to use the bow again.
However, the gameplay highlights in Astro’s Playroom are the special suits of the four areas. Codenamed Project Neo, the PlayStation 4 was the first mid-generation hardware revision that added significant amounts of power compared to earlier models. It used custom hardware that supported streamlined rendering techniques for better performance, or increased resolutions via checkerboard rendering. Curiously, playback of Ultra-HD Blu-Rays would not appear until the PlayStation 5. The strapline used in Astro’s Playroom is a cheeky reference to media confusion regarding what the Processor Unit actually did, initially thought to give the PS4 extra processing power for VR titles.
Following on from the first PlayStation, the PlayStation 2 would use DVDs for its optical storage medium. This proved to be a huge boon for the system, as it allowed it to double as a DVD player right when that format began to take off. The DualShock was actually preceded by the Dual Analog Controller in April that same year. It differs by having longer handles, concave analog sticks with no rubber coating, a ridge on top of the L2 and R2 buttons, and a green Analog button light. The international version of the controller lacked the dual rumble motors, hence the name difference.
Four profiles can be loaded onto the controller itself, letting them be taken to other PS5 systems. This also allows the currently-selected profile to be used on other platforms, such as a PC. The same as the previous artefact, but specifically designed to be held by a right hand! This version has the Circle, X and Options buttons, while the left-hand controller from before has the Square, Triangle and Create buttons. It’s also the first PlayStation controller to have textured analog sticks and monochrome face button symbols (preceded by the PSP and Vita handhelds).
